The Runnin’ Utes’ enter the 2016-17 season after back-to-back years in which they won over 25 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Utah also had its highest finish in the Pac-12 Conference last year, coming in as the runner-up, and made its first ever appearance in the Pac-12 Tournament championship game. The Runnin’ Utes will welcome another impressive slate of Pac-12 and non-conference opponents to the Huntsman Center this season. Over the last three years, the Utes are 50-4 overall at home and 27-0 in non-conference contests. Utah has averaged over 12,000 fans per home game in each of the past two years.
In 2015-16, Utah ranked second in the Pac-12 and 24th in the nation in home attendance, averaging 12,998 fans per game in the Huntsman Center. It was the highest attendance average for Utah since the 2000-01 season. In all, over 220,000 fans attended Utah’s 17 home games with the game day programs reaching more than 60,000 readers.
Head coach Larry Krystkowiak, entering his sixth year at Utah, has led the Utes to a 74-30 record and three straight postseason appearances since 2013-14. The Runnin’ Utes made the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished with a No. 15 final national ranking in 2014-15. Krystkowiak has also produced back-to-back national award winners with Delon Wright winning the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award in 2015 and Jakob Poeltl claiming the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award in 2016.
